Il laboratorio biologico BioLab sarà curato da "Menerva", spin off CNR, con sede nell'area della ricerca CNR di Pisa,
che offre soluzioni personalizzate e creative per l'insegnamento delle scienze e la divulgazione scientifica. (per maggiori informazioni visitate il sito web: www.menerva.it).
The life science laboratory "BioLab" will be run by "Menerva", a spin off company of the Italian
National Research Council, based in Pisa (Neuroscience Institute CNR). We offer personalized and
creative solutions to teach subjects of life science and to improve scientific dissemination.

La biologia è quella materia che studia tutto ciò che riguarda la vita. Da sempre l'uomo si è
dedicato allo studio della biologia, prima in modo elementare, imparando a distinguere le piante
commestibili da quelle velenose, poi in modo sempre più approfondito.
Nell'ambito del laboratorio all'interno della ludoteca scientifica verranno affrontati diversi
temi biologici suddivisi sia per categoria tematica.
Per ogni argomento viene specificata l'idoneità per il livello scolastico.
Dove indicato "scuole di ogni ordine e grado" per i bambini delle scuole primarie verrà prediletto
il gioco e l'aspetto fenomenologico, mentre per i ragazzi delle scuole secondarie
verranno approfonditi gli aspetti più teorici.
Ecco una selezione di giochi-esperienze di laboratorio che potrete trovare al BioLab:
Biology is the study of life, ranging from the study of living organisms and how they interact with
each other to the study of the structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, and distribution
of living things. Since long ago, humans have been interested in studying biology, at first,
simply to learn how to distinguish the edible plants from the poisonous ones, then
to pay more attention to understand the mechanisms at the basis of the biological phenomena.
The BioLab will present biological subjects split into theme categories.
For every topic we will report the suitability for each scholarship level.
If titled "schools of every order and degree" then the subject will be preferentially explained
with games showing the phenomenological aspects for the students of the primary school;
while the topic will be analyzed in more detail for students of higher level schools.
At the "Lus" exposition there will be a stand where it will be possible to buy a
wide range of our educational kits, games and gadgets.

Exploring the vegetable world (primary school)
"Finding out our origins" How can you determine to which family a flower or a leaf belongs? Also plants have specific features, and we will learn how to recognize some of them.
"Country that you visit…plants that you find!" Plants cannot move so they must perfectly fit to the environmental conditions. Which are the morphological modifications a plant undergoes which let it to survive in the desert or to live near very salty areas, like in proximity of the sea?
Esplorando il mondo vegetale (scuole elementari e medie)
"Alla ricerca delle proprie origini" Come si distingue l'appartenenza di una pianta o un fiore alla propria "famiglia"? Anche le piante hanno i loro tratti somatici distintivi, impariamo a riconoscerne alcuni.
"Paese che vai, …pianta che trovi!" Quali sono le caratteristiche che permettono a una pianta grassa di sopravvivere nel deserto o ad altre di vivere vicino a terreni molto salati, come in prossimità del mare? Le piante, dato che non possono muoversi, devono adattarsi perfettamente all'ambiente in cui vivono, anche se si tratta di luoghi molto ostili.
Esplorando il mondo Animale (scuole elementari e medie)
"Ma in che mondo vivi?!" Ciascun animale ha delle caratteristiche particolari, per quanto riguarda la forma del muso
delle zampe, il colore del pelo, la sua statura, ecc.. Raccogliendo tutte queste informazioni
sarà possibile capire qualcosa di più riguardo l'ambiente il suo stile di vita ed il suo habitat.
"La danza delle api" La comunicazione non è una prerogativa dell'uomo, ma esiste anche negli animali
(e non solo!). Le api usano un linguaggio molto originale, si scambiano informazioni attraverso
delle danze. Con queste riescono a dire alle sorelle dove trovare il cibo, specificando la direzione,
la distanza e la qualità del nettare. Proveremo anche noi a parlare "la lingua delle api" cercando
di comunicare con la danza…
"Chi è la mamma di questo cucciolo?" A volte l'aspetto di un animale cambia completamente nel corso della sua vita!
Exploring the Animal world (primary school)
"In what kind of world do you live?!" Every animal has some specific characteristics, concerning the size, the shape of the muzzle or the paws, the color of the fur, etc... By collecting this information it will be possible to understand something about the lifestyle and the habitat of animals.
"The bee dance" Communication is not only for humans, animals can also communicate.
Bees use a very original language: the dance! By doing certain movements they tell their sisters
where to find the food, specifying the direction, the distance and the quality of the nectar.
We will try to communicate as bees do, by dancing!
"Who it is the mum of this puppy?" Sometimes a little young animal does not look like the adults!
Genetics: inheritability and DNA (high schools only)
"Have a guess: who's!?" How can features like eyes and hair color, the shape of the face and the blood group be inheritated from our parents?
We will play detective to find out the relationships between different families. We will learn how to
"read" the genealogical tree and understand the inheritance rules.
La genetica: ereditarietà e DNA (solo scuole superiori)
"Indovina chi!" Come vengono trasmessi i caratteri come il colore degli occhi o dei capelli, la forma del viso,
il gruppo sanguigno, ecc…? Con questo gioco di stile investigativo-polizesco, impareremo a "leggere"
l'albero genealogico e capire le regole che lo determinano, risalendo i gradi di parentela.
"Costruiamo la doppia elica del DNA" Oggigiorno sentiamo spesso parlare del DNA, ma che cos'è realmente? Dove si trova e a cosa serve?
Oltre a cercare di rispondere insieme a queste domande, ai ragazzi verrano forniti tutti i pezzi della
doppia elica del DNA, come se fosse un puzzle da ricostruire; vincerà chi riuscirà a ricomporla
correttamente nel minor tempo possibile.
Laboratorio di Istologia (solo scuole superiori)
"Osserviamo la natura al microscopio!" Verranno forniti preparati biologici montati su vetrino e campioni di acque, foglie,
radici… per essere analizzati al microscopio ottico e allo stereomicroscopio. Il mondo microscopico,
che normalmente non riusciamo a vedere con i nostri occhi, ci può riservare delle meraviglie inedite.
Histology Laboratory (high schools only)
"Observing nature at the microscope!" Biological samples will be available to be observed and analyzed (histological samples, biological
materials like leaves, roots, vegetables, river water…). The microscopic world, that normally we
are not able to see with our eyes, can disclosure many wonderful secrets!
Laboratory of Psychobiology (schools of every order and degree)
"Am I dreaming or am I awake!?" Our mind sometimes makes some mistakes…; optical illusions can be
useful to understand how the human brain works. We will present the following topics: "the impossible
figures", the perspective, ambiguous pictures, color and brightness perception, ect…Finally,
we will make a small movie-clip of animated cartoons, learning how the human eye works and why a series
of different static pictures can be visualized in movement.
Laboratorio di Psicobiologia (tutte le scuole di ogni ordine e grado)
"Sogno o son desto!?" La nostra mente a volte ci gioca brutti scherzi; le illusioni ottiche ci aiutano a
comprendere meglio come funziona il nostro cervello…
Verranno affrontati temi come le figure impossibili, la prospettiva, figure ambigue,
la percezione dei colori e della luminosità, il punto cieco.
Infine potrà essere anche disegnato un piccolo spezzone di cartone animato! (cinematografo).
Scopriamo qual è il principio di funzionamento del nostro occhio e perché percepiamo tanti
disegni diversi come un unico movimento fluido.
Alimentazione (tutte le scuole di ogni ordine e grado)
Impariamo a distinguere le proprietà nutrizionali degli alimenti.
A cosa servono le vitamine o i grassi?
Dove trovo tante proteine?
Qual è la giusta quantità di ogni cibo da assumere per ogni età?
Nutrition (all schools)
We will learn which are the main nutritional properties of food.
What vitamins and fat are useful for our body? Which kind of food contains higher amount
of proteins? Which is the right amount of nutrients than should be eaten per day?
All'interno del BioLab sarà attivo uno stand con la gamma dei nostri giochi scientifico-biologici,
kit didattici e gadgets che potranno essere acquistati al termine di ogni visita.
